Did you know...?

For the 4 weeks leading up to July 4, we are posting one “did you know?” random facts about The Bookend Café every day.  We’ll capture the 28 items on our blog each day so you can see them all here.  It’s our way of getting you up to date with all the new and exciting changes that have happened over the winter.  Enjoy!

#1. Did you know our website has a blog about a variety of topics including interesting facts about coffee, books, and much more! Check the blog regularly for new information about The Bookend Café!

#2. Did you know we carry games and puzzles? We mentioned the 3D Puzzles earlier, but we also have giant floor puzzles and over a dozen other games, including the ones pictured here. All are easy to learn, many are for ages 3 and up, and all are for ages 8 and up!

#3. Did you know you can add a boost to any of our frozen drinks? You can add an extra shot of protein, antioxidant, or energy boost to a fruit smoothie or a frozen frappe or even to the Bookend Blast frozen chocolate dessert! It doesn’t add any taste, but it sure can make you feel better!

#4. Did you know that the coffee we use is from the Coda Coffee Company? We proudly serve fair trade Coda Coffee at The Bookend Café because like the team at Coda, we believe that if everyone tries to help one another, we can make this world a better place. Oh, and the coffee is really excellent too!

#5. Did you know that we now carry three lines of greeting cards? We have the very popular Shannon Martin cards, the innovative and embossed Pumpernickel Press cards, and the whimsical cards of Graphique. We have birthday, thank you, anniversary, get well, sympathy, and even pet sympathy cards – or blank ones for your own special occasion.

#6. Did you know that we offer a flavored coffee every day? We don’t use flavored coffee beans like a lot of places. We flavor our coffee using an awesome product from Inbru. Just a little scoop on top of the ground coffee gives great flavor without any calories, fat, dairy, or gluten. You can purchase Inbru right here in the store so you can enjoy hassle-free flavored coffee at home too!

#7. Did you know that we print personalized note cards in the store? We have over a dozen patterns including several new patterns that just became available last week! Patterns include all the ones in the picture plus many others – including several that are perfect for Christmas cards! They come 8 to a pack and include envelopes.

#8. Did you know we have new 3D puzzles, including pirate ship, dinosaurs, and the White House? We have over 50 different puzzles for every age group.

#9. Did you know we have hot breakfast sandwiches available all day? We have bacon/egg/cheese or sausage/egg/cheese on either a bagel or croissant. We also have hot breakfast wraps in either veggie or Canadian bacon.

#10. Did you know that we carry puzzle books? We have Sudoku, Crosswords, Trivia, and Brain-teaser books just waiting to give you a mental challenge. Perfect for the beach or in the car during the drive home from vacation (unless you are the one driving, of course).

#11. Did you know we carry the popular Stick Family On Board stickers? We have stickers for parents, young kids, older kids, baby, and even the family cat and dog!

#12. Did you know we have Uncrustables PB&J Sandwiches? If you are looking for a quick grab-and-go snack for the kiddos (or the kids-at-heart), this is the one for you. It’s Peanut Butter and Jelly with the crusts cut off for you!

#13. While nearly all the books in the store are gently used books, did you know we do have a few brand new books as well, including all 3 books of the 50 Shades of Grey series? These are the hottest books in America right now and we have them. If you have any if these that you have read, we’d love to take them off your hands! Send us a message if you have any of the 50 Shades books that you would like to part with.

#14. Did you know that The Bookend Café is sponsoring Fenwick Flicks? Bring the family to Fenwick Island for free family movies this summer! The first movie is a week from today. On Tuesday, June 26 the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce will be screening “Dolphin Tale” on the beach at Farmington Street. Visit http://www.bethany-fenwick.org for more details.

#15. Did you know we have 5 flavors of Fruit Smoothies? We have Strawberry, Peach, Mango, Wildberry (which is a mix of blue berry, black berry, and raspberry) and we now have Lemonade Smoothie too! All are made to order so they are fresh and tasty.

#16. Did you know we have a section of the store devoted to holiday books? Most of the books in this section are Christmas books, but we also have books about Thanksgiving, Halloween, and others. Some of these are fiction books but many are non-fiction, including many holiday craft books!

#17. Did you know our website has a calendar of events? We add events in the Fenwick Island area (including Bethany Beach and Ocean City, MD) as well as fun holidays. For example, did you know July 9 is National Sugar Cookie Day? You can find the details on our website!

#18. Did you know that the most popular drink on our menu is the Fenwick Flyer? A Fenwick Flyer is a cup of our regular drip coffee with a double shot of espresso added. Some places call this a Black Eye, a Turbo, a Shot-In-The-Dark, and we’ve even heard it referred to as an Al Pacino. No matter what you call it, a Fenwick Flyer is the perfect boost to get you moving and it’s our most popular drink.

#19. Did you know we have hundreds of children’s and teen books? We have all our books divided into 3 sections: Toddler/Education, Early/Middle Reader, and Teen/Young Adult. We have classics (like Dr. Seuss and Judy Blume) and newer books too!

#20. Did you know that we now carry Mini Folding Glasses with Tortoise Shell case? These glasses have a compact frame that folds to fit in the very small case. They come in powers from 1.25 to 3.75.

#21. Did you know we now carry hummus?  We have Sabra classic hummus with pretzel crisps in a convenient grab-n-go container.  Perfect when you want a healthier snack on the go!

#22. Did you know we have a large selection of Large Print books? Many of our customers are looking for books that have larger font and we’ve got them here. In addition to individual large print books, we also have large print compilations too so you can get two or three large print books in one!

#23. Did you know that we have over a dozen variety of the oval “Euro” style stickers and magnets? We have Fenwick Island, Ocean City, and the ever popular LSD (Lower Slower Delaware). Most are in the classic black and white style, but we have some in color.  We also have some neighboring towns too!

#24. Did you know we have nearly 200 classic literature books on the shelves and that most of them are less than $3.00?  That means you can pick up many of the books on those summer reading lists right here!

#25. Did you know that we expanded all our non-fiction sections?  Since the winter we added hundreds of books to biographies/autobiographies, history/military/politics, personal development, health/fitness/cookbooks, and more!  And many of them are published within the last year!

#26. Did you know we have Melissa & Doug activity books?  We have Paint with Water, Reusable Sticker Pads, Coloring Pads, and Sticker Pads. Perfect rainy day (or any day!) items to keep the little ones happy.

#27. Did you know we now sell newspapers? We have The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Wall Street Journal, and The USA Today.

#28. We added a ton of new food items to the menu, including three flavors of scones: Blueberry, Chocolate Chip, and Cinnamon.
